Beat On The Brat

In December, me and my friends made a band and we played at a show. Here's a video of us-I'm putting this on the blog because our second song was called Beat On The Brat, by the Ramones. I know we're not very good at all, but it is certainly entertaining and interesting!
I tried to put the video on the blog, but it took FOREVER to upload. You'll have to go on YouTube. Here are your directions:

1. Go to YouTube.

2. Search Beat On The Brat 2009.

3. Enjoy.

Dizzler

You may notice a gadget called Dizzler on the top of the page. I installed Dizzler so people can listen to PUNK music. Only use Dizzler for searching bands that were on my history post. Thank you so much!
Mr. Simpson
PS: If that annoying automatic song comes on, then immediately turn it off. I can't stop it from coming on, so you just press the stop button and it'll stop.

Post 5-Summary

Studying punk was a really great experience, because a lot of times I actually told myself it would be easy to write a blog on punk. Turns out, it was hard to find information without swearing or rude words or anything like that. Anyways, it was really fun to look for information, because sometimes I found unhelpful info that was so not related to punk, and it made me laugh. It was kind of hard looking for information, because not all punk is school-appropriate.
I love punk music for the craziness, everything is just so fast and unstoppable. I also really think their clothes are cool, not something that I would wear to school or anything, but they're kind of fun to wear.
I found it surprising that being a punk band is a lot more than learning to play an instrument and showing up. It costs a lot of money for everything! Did you know that a good four track (a recording device) can cost from about $400 to $1500? And that is if you want to record your own songs. If you want a recording team to record songs, $880 to $1230.
Punk rock is great, and I found it a lot of fun studying it. I never knew there was such a history to punk, and I know that when I'm listening to Ramones, or Nirvana, or Green Day, or any of the other bands, they won't just be the awesome bands that I did this whole report over.

In conclusion, punk and alternative music is so great, and that made it really fun to write this Personal Quest, and it also made researching not so bad also. Like I said before, there is no bad side of punk, the part that you might think is bad is probably the good side that makes punk and alternative so different and neat. Punk is awesome!

Post 3-How To

How To Play Guitar
Items Needed

1. Guitar
2. Guitar Pick (optional but recommended)
3. Amplifier (if guitar is electric)
4. Extra Strings
5. Tuner
The guitar is a fretted instrument. If you look at a guitar, you will notice lines where the strings are. Those are called frets. When you put a finger on the fret, and then pluck the same string, the guitar will make a note. Put a finger on a different fret, the guitar will make a different note.
But guitar is nowhere near being that easy to play; in fact, almost every song in the world with guitar has more than just notes. Most of them have chords. Yep. Chords. To make a chord you put more than one finger on different frets, then strum the entire guitar to get a certain, unique sound. Look at these pictures below and look at chords. Also you can watch the video (sorry that was my mom yelling in the background). These are the chords these pictures show:
1: E minor
2: A
3: D
4: C
5. G

Post 1-History

In the mid-seventies, rock music was getting older than most of its fans, and was almost becoming-plain. Suddenly, a new type of rock music developed: punk. Punk was a faster style of rock, with mostly teenage fans, due to it's rude and amateurish nature. Punk bands normally had amateur body piercings, tattoos, mohawks, and odd and colorful hairstyles. One early punk band was the New York Dolls, who emerged from New York, and then the Ramones, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols from England. These punk bands took rock to it's faster side, ripping distorted power chords, rude-sounding lyrics and crazy vocals. The early punk bands continued playing through the 80's, with other bands joining them, but in the late 80's, a new style of rock was born: alternative rock. One of the main alternative rock bands was Nirvana, and when they released their hit album Nevermind in 1991, alternative rock started dominating popular music. The sound of alternative was like punk, except maybe a little bit slower, with longer songs, and long electric guitar solos. But in the middle of the decade, a terrible thing happened: Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's singer, died. And when he died, Nirvana stopped releasing records, which caused alternative rock to start losing it's luster. There were still a few bands that were releasing records, like the Foo Fighters, a band with a man named David Grohl as their singer/guitarist. Dave Grohl had played drums in Nirvana, and the Foo Fighters were kind of the ghost of Nirvana, continuing alternative rock music.
Green Day was a little band that was starting to get popular right around the time that Nirvana stopped playing. Green Day was a mix of punk and alternative rock, with all the elements of punk (tattoos, nose rings, dyed hair, power chords, rude-sounding vocals) and all the softer side of punk, alternative rock. Some songs, for example, Welcome To Paradise, showed the more punk side of Green Day, and other songs like Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, show a softer side. Green Day still plays, and are now one of the most popular rock bands in the world, especially after the release of their 2004 album, American Idiot.
